St. Philip's
Hassall Green

Christ Church Wheelock

The Mothers' Union branch at St. John's was formed on 24th January 1933. The Diamond Jubilee therefore was celebrated in 1993.
We hold our meetings on the 3rd Wednesday each month generally in St. John's school. The branch has 23 members and we always welcome new members. Our meetings start with prayers, and later in the evening we have a speaker on a variety of subjects, and we also have slideshows of photographs taken in many parts of the world.
We have 5 objectives. The organisation was the inspiration of Mary Sumner. We celebrated the foundation of the society 125 years ago throughout 2001. We have a Relief Fund - we raise money nationally for this - to assist at times of crisis both in the UK and overseas. We are a society with Christian concern for families worldwide, and have branches all over the world.

The Mothers' Union Prayer;

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who gave marriage to be a source of blessing, we thank you for family life, with all its joys and sorrows.

May we know your presence and peace in our homes, fill them with your love and use them to your glory.

Bless all who are married and every parent and child.

Pour out upon us your Holy Spirit, that we may truly love and serve you.

Bless the members of the Mothers' Union throughout the world, unite us in prayer and worship, in love and service, that, strengthened by your grace, we may seek to do your will; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen
